the truth is we don’t NEED to. But there’s more to the answer. Some people are forced to by their jobs. No choice. Others feel peer pressure to keep up and stay relevant. Yet others are excited about the possibilities that can come from this use of technology. “Need” is an interesting verb and not one that cuts cleanly for most people but appreciate you challenging the premise altogether. Of course, you are right. I’m feeling nostalgic for pre computer/internet days lately. I see my son being engulfed by his phone. Even my 91 year old mom is mesmerized by ai slop on her smartphone.
